Welcome! We're excited that you're interested in auditioning for the 2025-2026 UVU Green Man Group.

Audition Schedule:

There are several components to the Utah Valley University Green Man Group application. Please thoroughly read through all of the application instructions as you complete each page.

Upon submission, the basic eligibility requirements (ie: GPA, current student standing, etc.) will be verified. To audition for the Green Man Group, a student must be in good standing with the university and have a 2.5 cumulative GPA at time of application. As a member of the Green Man Group you must maintain a 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA.

Participation Award (Scholarship) Information

Participation awards (scholarships) for the UVU Drumline are determined by the availability of tuition waivers and/or funding awarded from the Department of Student Leadership and Involvement based on resources distributed to the Student Development and Well-Being programs. Students receiving compensation must also meet certain academic requirements as set forth by the Scholarship Office and are subject to restrictions set forth by the State of Utah and the institution.

In the case that a student is receiving additional awards funded through other campus departments, academic programs, or private donors, it may effect the dollar amount that the Spirit Squad is able to award.

Lastly, students are only eligible to receive a tuition waiver through Spirit Squad that covers up to the Utah resident portion of undergraduate tuition. In the case that a student does not have Utah state residency it will be the financial responsibility of the student to pay the difference between the resident and non-resident or WUE tuition amounts.

Terms & Agreements

COMMITTMENT: I commit myself to participation in the Utah Valley University Spirit Squad for the full performance year beginning June 1 or on the date in which I'm offered the position (whichever comes last) through May 1 of the following year. I will make team involvement a top priority throughout this timeframe. I am willing and desire to participate in activities such as: practices, appearances, performances, travel, competing and fundraising.

Each member of the Spirit Squad will be on a probationary period from the time of audition to the date of the Back to School Camp. For any reason that you no longer meet the program standards, meet the eligibility requirements or have violated the participation agreement in any way, you will be dismissed from the team. Members of the Spirit Squad will be expected to participate in University, athletic, alumni, and community functions where and when opportunities exist. In addition, the success and life balance of each student leader is at the forefront of the mission of the Department of Student Leadership and Involvement (SLI). Because of this priority, students involved in SLI programs will need to be committed to their positions and the time commitment they entail. Students are discouraged from and will not be selected if they are involved in extracurricular activities (jobs, hobbies, additional student leadership opportunities, etc.) that exceed 20-25 hours per week. Furthermore, students that are offered multiple positions amongst the various student leadership programs will be expected to select only one program to participate in. *

ACADEMIC STANDARDS: I will be registered as a full-time (min. 12 credits) student at Utah Valley University and maintain that status for the fall and spring semesters in which I am involved. I will make my UVU education a high priority in my life and maintain good standing with the University free from academic warning, probation or suspension.

Each Spirit Squad member must be registered as a full-time student (min. 12 UVU credits), maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5. If either the cumulative or semester GPA is lower than 2.5 and 12 UVU credits are not completed, the Spirit Squad member will be dismissed from the team, asked to turn in their equipment/uniforms/costumes and may no longer participate as a member of the Spirit Squad for the entirety of the season. If the student completes 12 UVU credits but does not meet the 2.5 GPA for the semester or cumulatively or vice versa, the Spirit Squad member will be placed on probation and be ineligible for scholarship. Enrollment at any other University must be cleared through the program staff and will not count towards the credit hour total required. *

ATTENDANCE: I will make attendance at practices, appearances, performances (game or event), and program events/meetings a priority. I understand these dates will be communicated with ample time and failure to attend without prior communication/approval may result in removal from a routine.

Because a Spirit Squad member needs to audition to earn a position on the team and full team participation is critical to the success of the team, only in extreme circumstances should a member be absent from any practice, appearance, performance (game or event) and program events/meetings. Extreme circumstances (ie: a death, wedding of an immediate family member, injury, etc.) will be excusable for missing practice, a rehearsal, a game, event, or an appearance. Any unexcused absence will result in the removal from a routine/performance. Any potential absences or tardiness should be discussed in advance with the respective coach and program staff. Three tardies will constitute one strike (please see discipline section). Excessive absences may result in dismissal from the team. After the event calendar is updated, you have 72 hours to notify program staff/coaches of any major conflicts so that accommodations can be made if needed. *

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: I understand that I am fully responsible for the costs that are associated with being a member of the Spirit Squad. If at any time I violate the conditions of this agreement (ie: quit/dismissal from the team, transfer to another school, do not meet GPA requirements, etc.) I will forfeit my right to receive any fees or items for which I have paid or a sponsor has donated. Any apparel paid for by the University for my use (ie: uniforms/costumes) will be returned.

As a member of the Green Man Group, your participation fees will be $400. If you are unable to fulfill this agreement (both semesters), there will be no refunds for this fee. This balance will be applied to your UVU account and will be subject to academic holds if not paid in full. *

INSURANCE: I understand that Utah Valley University does not provide any medical insurance coverage and that I have personal health insurance. I understand that I am responsible for any injuries that may take place on and off the campus of UVU while I am a member of the Spirit Squad. In addition, I understand that it is my responsibility to inform my respective coach and the program staff of any personal health problems or those of other teammates that may be a concern. Health is taken very seriously as it affects the safety of you and those around you. All discussions surrounding health and medical conditions will always be addressed with professionalism, respect, and confidentially. *

SAFETY: I understand that as a member of the Spirit Squad it is my responsibility to contribute to a safe environment to limit the risk of injury. I will be alert and attentive during all practices, appearances, and performances.

As a performing athlete there is a degree of inherit risk involved as a participant of the Spirit Squad. However, the chance of injury can be reduced if all team members are committed to creating an environment focused on safety. Under no circumstance will inattentive behavior or horseplay be tolerated during practices, appearances, and performances. The practice or performance of any stunts, pyramids, and/or routines until a coach or staff member is present will not be permitted. Rules and limiting conditions set by Utah Valley University, the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors (AACCA) will be followed at all times. *

BEHAVIOR & CONDUCT: I will promote and actively contribute to a culture of teamwork, respect, professionalism, and punctuality. I will be honest and dependable fostering relationships based on trust.

The Spirit Squad program has the primary function and purpose in generating student participation, a spirit of camaraderie and pride at athletic events. While maintaining this enthusiasm, focus should be placed on fostering an environment of professionalism and pride for the specific performance group. Regular review and critique of routines will take place during practices and following performances. Spirit Squad members are expected to be open to the feedback provided by the Coach, Program Staff, and Director of Student Leadership and Involvement. Additional critiques may be provided by other team members, specifically by Officers, Captains, and /or Section Leaders. All critiques should be delivered respectfully and constructively. Suggestions for routines, etc. will be considered and discussed by the relevant party, however, the coach and program staff hold the right to make the final decision(s) pertaining to the group. Spirit Squad members must be in appropriate apparel (including jewelry) and prepared to begin at the designated start time of all practices, appearances, and performances.
No gum will be permitted during practices, appearances, or performances. All Spirit Squad members should be mindful and conscientious of the event and audience at all times. Unprofessional or malicious behavior such as back-talking, swearing, obscene gestures, gossiping, the spread of slanderous rumors, or blatant disrespect towards students or staff will not be tolerated. *

REPRESENTATION: As a member of the Spirit Squad I understand that I am a representative of Utah Valley University at all times and will conduct/present myself in a way that reflects professionalism, respect, and kindness towards others and the University both in person and on the internet.

As a member of the team you are required to uphold a reputation reflective of the Institution, the Department of Student Leadership and Involvement, the Spirit Squad, and yourself. If you ever question anything that you may be doing as a member of the team, know that you have the responsibility to uphold the standards that have been set in place. No yelling, abusive language, physical gestures or motions directed to other members of the Spirit Squad, crowd, athletes, or officials will be permitted. While participating in any UVU sponsored event and activity, no other college or university branded apparel shall be worn. Representation of the University and Spirit Squad expands beyond your physical presence but includes your social involvement on the internet. All members of the Spirit Squad are encouraged to practice positive and respectful behaviors when participating in all forms of social media. When posting on social media, all members should be mindful of what they post including pictures, videos, and comments. Bullying or other disrespectful behavior in any capacity will not be tolerated. *

HEALTH & LIFESTYLE: I will make a conscious and diligent effort to live a healthy lifestyle free of eating disorders, self-mutilation, drug abuse, prescription drug abuse, alcohol abuse, inappropriate use of performance enhancing drugs, etc. I will be mindful of my nutrition and maintain a healthy weight. I will participate in physical exercise to ensure that I have the necessary strength and endurance to perform to the best of my ability.

Health and safety are at the forefront of the Spirit Squad program. Participation in the program requires attentive care to your personal health and fitness. All participants are expected to eat a well-balanced diet and participate in regular exercise to ensure that their bodies are equipped to handle and endure the physical exertion required. Failure to maintain a healthy lifestyle jeopardizes the safety of the individual and the team. Any concerns regarding a Spirt Squad member's health will be addressed privately by the coach and program staff. *

TECHNICAL ABILITY: I recognize my responsibility for maintaining and developing my technical abilities while serving as a member of the Spirit Squad.

The Spirit Squad is a competitive program and the need to maintain a high level of technical ability beyond the initial audition is critical to the overall success of the team. In order to maintain and develop your technical ability you may need to take additional lessons/classes outside of UVU sponsored practices (ie: tumbling/stunting, dance technique/ballet, percussion, etc.). Any expenses incurred for these are the participant's responsibility. *

UNIFORMS, COSTUMES, & TEAM APPAREL: I agree to properly maintain and clean all uniforms, costuming, and team apparel assigned/issued to me. If there is any damage or loss to the uniform, costumes or team apparel while in my care I understand I am responsible for the cost of any cleaning, repair, or replacement fees. I agree to return all uniforms, costumes and team apparel upon request.

Any uniform, costume, or team apparel issued will be the responsibility of the Spirit Squad member. If any uniform, costume or team apparel is lost or damaged beyond repair, the Spirit Squad member will be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement. At the end of the season, Spirit Squad members are responsible for the cleaning of their uniforms and/or costumes (a receipt from the cleaner verifying service will be required). If items are not returned by the designated date/time, then a hold will be placed on the Spirit Squad member's UVU account potentially preventing the student from registering for future classes, requesting transcripts, etc. Uniforms and costumes should not be worn outside of any official Spirit Squad assigned activities without prior approval from the program staff (ie: Halloween, performance with another company/group, etc.). Costumes and uniforms should only be worn by current Spirit Squad members. *

TRAVEL: I understand the parameters surrounding team travel and will represent Utah Valley University as an ambassador of the institution at all times while traveling with my team.

When traveling and representing Utah Valley University, from the time of departure to the time of return, Spirit Squad members should adhere to the standard participation requirements of conduct and good character. Participation in anything illegal or unethical while traveling with UVU may result in disciplinary action including suspension from the team, the cancellation of all scholarships, and/or the return to campus at the expense of the individual. While traveling, participants are not permitted to consume, purchase, or be in possession of any alcohol or illicit drugs regardless of participants' age or legality. For any travel, an itinerary will be prepared. Upon arrival, all students must stay together, check into the hotel, and meet with the program staff or coach before separating from the group. No member will be allowed to go anywhere alone, or with anyone other than those directly affiliated with the Spirit Squad without prior approval from the program staff. Transportation, lodging, and meals will be provided by UVU unless otherwise indicated. All other expenses are the responsibility of the participant. Selection of those traveling to selected activities (ie: games, appearances, competition, etc.) will be at the discretion of the program staff and coach. *

DRUG & ALCOHOL USE: As a performing athlete, I recognize the need and expectation for appropriate and legal drug and alcohol use if I choose to consume it. I understand that as a member of the Spirit Squad if I am under the influence of any drugs or alcohol during any Utah Valley University sponsored event or activity that I am subject to disciplinary action.

It is a fundamental belief of the NCAA and UVU that athletic/program participation is a privilege and those athletes who use illegal performance enhancing and/or recreational drugs substantively violate that privilege. A student performing athlete assumes the responsibility to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. Prohibited acts: unlawful use, possession, distribution, sale, or manufacture of any controlled substance, alcohol, or illegal drug on any property or in any building owned, leased, or rented by the University, or at any activity sponsored by the institution. Those involved in such activities are subject to University disciplinary action and substantial legal sanctions pursuant to local, county, state, and federal laws. Violation of the drug and alcohol policy may result in one or more of the following penalties: verbal or written notice, a specified period of probation, suspension or expulsion. *

DISCIPLINE: I understand that it is my responsibility to understand the content of this agreement, that I will be held accountable for my actions and that any problems or concerns surrounding my behavior and conduct will be addressed.

Any problems or concerns surrounding a member of the Spirit Squad including but not limited to behavior, conflicts, academic progress or health should be discussed with the coach or program staff. Any violation of this agreement will be handled with a "three strike model". When the first violation has occurred, the Spirit Squad member will receive a verbal warning. The second violation will result in a behavioral assessment meeting with the Spirit Squad program staff. First and second violations may include participation restrictions (ie: removal from a routine, loss of participation in optional travel, etc.). When three violations have occurred, the Spirit Squad member will be dismissed from the program. At any point in time throughout the warning process, you may be referred to the Office of Student Conduct. Dismissal from the team results in the ineligibility for future auditioning. The "three-strike" model will be in effect during that single year of participation. Any appeals to the eligibility criteria or determined sanctions may be submitted to the Director of Student Leadership & Involvement for review. *

PARTICIPATION AWARD (SCHOLARSHIP): By fulfilling the terms and conditions outlined in this document, I understand I will be eligible to receive financial compensation for my participation with the Spirit Squad program in the form of a tuition-based scholarship during the fall and spring semesters. Failure to do so will result in forfeiting my scholarship and any other benefits afforded to me as a member of the Utah Valley University Spirit Squad. All Spirit Squad members will be eligible to receive half tuition during the fall semester and full tuition during the spring semester pending funding availability.

All scholarships issued through the Spirit Squad program are awarded as the dollar equivalent of undergraduate, resident tuition rates. Students are responsible for accepting their award through their myUVU portal when notified. Any questions or concerns regarding a student's scholarship award should be directed to the program staff immediately and within the semester in question. *

Required Dates & Practices

The following are currently scheduled mandatory dates and events. If selected as a Green Man Group member, it will be critical for you to attend all the dates outlined below. On some specific dates below, the times are to be determined.

Additional required dates for fall and spring semesters (ie: athletic appearances/performances, Homecoming events, leadership training, etc.) are subject to schedules outside of the Spirit Squad program's control. Once finalized, these dates will be communicated in a timely manner.

Please be aware that these dates are subject to change and if any changes are made, you'll be notified in advance.

WAIVER

This waiver should be filled out by the participant if over 18 years of age or the guardian if under 18 years of age.

This Activity Participation Agreement (the "Agreement") is entered into as of the last signature date below,
by and between Utah Valley University, a body politic and corporate of the State of Utah ("UVU"), and Participant or
Guardian (if applicable).

Guardian acknowledges that this Agreement contains, among other provisions, the following
contractual terms: an assumption of risk, a covenant not to sue, a release of the Guardian and Minor's
claims, and indemnification obligations. Guardian represents that Participant is under 18 years of age
and that Guardian is fully competent and authorized to sign this Agreement on Participant's behalf. Guardian
gives permission for Participant to engage in the Activity. In consideration for UVU permitting Participant to
engage in the Activity, Guardian, for Participant, and for their respective heirs, personal representatives, and
assigns, agrees as follows:

Assumption of Risk. Guardian represents that Participant is qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in the Activity. Guardian acknowledges and understands that the Activity may include but is not limited to the following: physical activities (e.g., running, jumping, climbing); physical exertion such as lifting or moving heavy objects; spending extended periods of time outdoors being exposed to the elements (sun, wind, rain); travel to and from the Activity; and consumption of food and/or beverage. Guardian acknowledges and understands that Participant may be exposed to certain risks that are inherent in participation in the Activity. These risks may include but are not limited to such things as incidents related to the above-mentioned activities, including sprains, broken bones, cuts, bruises, entrapment, temporary or permanent disability, illness, personal injury, and/or death; adverse weather conditions; exposure to theft and other criminal activity; allergic reactions to food and drink items; other physical, mental, and emotional injury; other risks and dangers, whether known or unknown nor reasonably foreseeable. Guardian, on behalf of Participant, knowingly and voluntarily, accepts, and assumes responsibility for each of these risks and dangers, and all other risks and dangers that could arise out of, or occur during, Participant's engagement in the Activity. *

Covenant Not to Sue: Guardian for him/herself, and on behalf of Participant, agrees that Guardian will not commence any legal action or lawsuit or otherwise assert any legal claim against UVU and its officers, directors, employees, and agents seeking relief for any claim, whether or not such claim is released or waived under this Agreement. *

Severability/Governing Law: Guardian agrees that this Agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by the law of the State of Utah and that if any portion hereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect. The Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to conflicts of laws principles. Venue for any lawsuits, claims, or other proceedings between the Parties relating to or arising under the Agreement shall be exclusively in the State of Utah. *

Indemnification: Guardian agrees to indemnify and hold UVU and its trustees, officers, directors, employees, and agents harmless from any and all claims, actions, suits, procedures, costs, expenses, damages and liabilities, including attorney's fees, arising out of Participant's involvement in the Activity and to reimburse UVU for any such expenses incurred. *

Release of Claims: Guardian for him/herself, and on behalf of Participant, releases and fully discharges UVU, including its trustees, officers, agents, and employees, from any and all claims or causes of action that may be brought by Guardian, Participant, or by any other person (including but not limited to Guardian's estate, family, successors, heirs, representatives, administrators, and/or assigns), including all liability for damage to personal property, personal injury or loss arising out of or related to Participant's engagement in the Activity to the fullest extent permitted by law. *

Health Insurance and Consent to Medical Treatment: Should Participant require emergency medical treatment as a result of accident or illness arising during the Activity, Guardian consents to such treatment. Guardian acknowledges that UVU will not provide health and accident insurance for Participant, and Guardian agrees to be financially responsible for any medical bills incurred as a result of emergency medical treatment. *

Acknowledgment: I am the parent or legal guardian of the Participant or am filling out for myself (over age 18). I understand the legal consequences of signing this document, including (a) releasing UVU and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from all liability on my and the Participant's behalf, (b) promising not to sue on my and the Participant's behalf, and (c) assuming all risks of the Participant's participation in this Activity, including travel to, from and during the Activity. I give my consent for Participant to participate in this Activity. I understand that I am responsible for the obligations and acts of Participant as described in this document. Video Submissions

Approximately one month from the audition date, you will receive an email with a few simple exercises and one piece of audition music.

You will be asked to upload a short audition video of you playing the music you receive in the email. The video doesn't need to be anything fancy. It can be recorded with a phone of you playing on a practice pad somewhere in your house.

The easiest way to submit your video will be to upload it to YouTube and then email the link to kenton.nielson@uvu.edu prior to your in person audition. *
